TUALATIN — It’s the closest thing the Sherwood High School swim teams have to a home meet all season.
And the Bowmen squads gave their home fans plenty to cheer about.
The Sherwood teams turned in strong performances as they faced St. Helens and Wilsonville in a Northwest Oregon Conference double dual meet held last Thursday at the Tualatin Swim Center.
The Sherwood girls came away with a pair of key league wins. They bested Wilsonville 130-36 and they scored a 90-80 win over St. Helens to move to 3-0 in league meets.
St. Helens, which was undefeated in league meets going into last Thursday’s action, fell to 4-1 with the loss.
“I’m so proud of us,” Sherwood sophomore Samantha Oliszewski said at the end of the meet. “We’ve been working so hard. I was nervous for this meet. St. Helens has a really good team.”
Wins in both the 200 and the 400-yard freestyle relay events helped spur the Lady Bowmen to their key win over St. Helens.
In the 200 freestyle relay, the Sherwood team of Oliszewski, senior Milena Radanovic, senior Brittni Steers and junior Carrie Dehning had a winning time of 1 minute, 50.49 seconds. Dehning, sophomore Taylor Hille, freshman Emily Stevens and Oliszewski teamed to win the 400 freestyle relay in 4:01.50.
“I love the relays. They’re so much fun,” Oliszewski said. “We all cheer for each other and that really helps. I think our relays will get to state and do well.”
The relay victories were just part of a big day for Oliszewski. She also scored a victory in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:20.47 and she had a winning mark of 1:14.55 in the 100 breaststroke.
“I really want to get to the finals at state in the 200 IM this year,” she said.
