Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue doesn’t want to see Tualatin’s Central Urban Renewal District extended for another 25 years and $120 million.
The organization’s board of directors voted Tuesday night to reject the proposal from the city of Tualatin to extend the urban renewal plan, and start receiving the tax dollars it has been missing out on since 1975.
Board President Bob Wyffels said that the board members felt that extending the timeline for the urban renewal district would unfairly make TVF&R lose out on money it could use for services.
“That’s just not what these urban renewal districts were intended to do,” Wyffels said of extending urban renewal beyond original plans. He said that this was the first time in his tenure on the board that they had a negative viewpoint on urban renewal.
“It was a monumental decision,” he said. “We just don’t do it.”
