After nearly a decade at Tualatin High School, and more than 30 years in education, Jeff Smith has said that he won’t be coming back for the 2010-2011 school year.
The 57-year-old principal announced to students and staff Friday that he will retire at the end of the year.
“It was time for me to make a change in my life,” Smith said. “Things are in good shape at Tualatin High School. Of course, there’s more work to be done, but I felt like it was time to turn it over to somebody different.”
Smith has served as principal at Tualatin High School since 2001. He is the second principal to serve at the school since it was opened in 1992.
“Jeff’s been a great principal at Tualatin,” said Rob Saxton, district superintendent. “We’re really going to miss him, and it’ll be difficult to find a replacement … Jeff really deserves a lot of kudos for the work that he’s done, and it’s really evident at the level that the school performs at and the pride that people have in it.”
