DEQ slaps Sherwood firm with fine
Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality has hit Sherwood’s Western Industrial Ceramics Inc. with a $6,348 penalty for failing to obtain a required stormwater discharge permit. The company has appealed the penalty.
The plant at 10725 S.W. Tualatin-Sherwood Road is required to obtain a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System 1200-Z General Permit because it is conducting an industrial, commercial or other type of activity that can cause a discharge of wastes into surface waters. Stormwater runoff from land and areas such as paved streets, parking lots and building rooftops during rainfall and snow events often contain pollutants that could adversely affect water quality.
Members of the Tualatin Boy Scout Troop 530 are providing curbside Christmas tree recycling for residents of Tualatin Saturdays, Jan. 2 and Jan 9, for a fee of $6 to $12. Place trees near the curb with the fee in an envelope attached to the tree. Make checks payable to Troop 530. A portion of the fee will be donated to the Oregon Organ Donor program. To arrange a pick-up, call scoutmaster Norm Dannemiller at 503-885-2405 or email scoutmaster@troop530.org.
