A 23-year-old Portland woman was killed the night of Wednesday, Dec. 2 in a car crash on Highway 99W near Sherwood.
The collision happened when the woman, Grace C. Throckmorton, attempted to cross the highway from Southwest Bell Road to get to the northbound lanes. Her 1999 Honda Accord didn't make it, however, and a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 27-year-old Dayton man impacted directly with the driver-side door. The Washington County Sheriff's office said the man did not have enough time to brake.
After they collided, the vehicles both spun and came to rest on the guardrail closest to the center median. Throckmorton was wearing her seatbelt when she was struck, but was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to Newberg Hospital with minor injuries.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, the sheriff's offce said, and no charges or citations are expected to issued in this case.
Southbound lanes on Highway 99W were closed for several hours as investigators from the Washington County's Sheriff's office and Oregon State Police responded.
